David's Prayer - Print
While working on this painting I was meditating on Revelation 8 and thinking about prayer - and the importance of living a lifestyle of perpetual prayer.
The offering of incense has long been associated with the worship of God. In revelation 8 the incense symbolizes the prayers of the faithful saints being sent up to God's ear. The sweet smoke can hinder our view of the physical world around us, and with our senses fully engaged, our mind and hearts can be elevated towards God.
To me the smoky insense can also be a symbol of the Holy Spirit mysteriously embracing humanity in love and affection which adds to the ambiance of being in the presense of something greater than ourselves, a mystery of heaven.
